Biography
Nadine Bermudez is a first-year graduate student at Illinois State University. Her interests include politics, public service, history, and the ways political and social institutions shape communities and everyday life. Outside of academics, Nadine enjoys crocheting, playing video games, spending time with friends and family, and settling in for a good night at home.
Research Interests & Areas
My research interests focus on political institutions, governance, political legitimacy, and how systems of power shape everyday life. I am particularly interested in colonial and postcolonial politics in the Philippines, including the relationship between religion and political authority, nationalism and resistance, and the ways institutions shape gender and social life. More broadly, I am interested in how historical systems of power continue to influence contemporary politics, including public trust, political identity, access to resources, and relationships between governments and the communities they serve. I also have interests in public policy and administration, particularly education, equity, and access.
